What Does Jesus Say?
The Law vs Faith
Highlight
Galatians 3:5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? The Law vs Faith.
Explanation/Application the Law vs Faith
Galatians 1-5 are law vs faith chapters. It’s helpful to substitute believe and faith for their actual meaning. If you believe in someone, you keep their commandments. What Does It Mean to Believe? If you have faith in someone, you keep their commandments. So, verse 5 might better read this way. So again, I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your keeping the commands of Jesus?
Minimizing the commands of Jesus is sinful. Adding to the commands of Jesus is also sinful. We need Jesus plus circumcision or Jesus plus sabbath keeping. It’s Jesus plus no shell fish. That’s adding to his commands. The list goes on and on. Minimizing His commands is also sinful. IE, We’re saved by grace not by works. So it’s not important or necessary to keep His commands.
Response
Lord, help me to walk with you this day. Help me steer clear from idols. An idol being anything that I lift up in my heart, mind, and soul and set higher than my relationship with you. Help me to do these things so that I can receive your Holy Spirit this day and walk with Him, abide in Him and be led by Him.
