The bible never mentions the word rapture. But many verses in the bible point to this event. Rapture is a state or experience of being carried away.
The Ark of the Covenant
The Lord slew 70 men who looked into the ark of the covenant. 1 Sam 6:19. Remember “Raiders of the Lost Ark”? In that fictional account their faces melted off their skeletons when they looked into the ark. What a mysterious object! Actually, there is meaning behind the mystery.
The ark was a symbol of God’s presence. The Israelites were instructed not to look into it. Numbers 4:20. It was to be handled by strict divine direction. What it says to us is that access to God’s presence is only possible through priestly sacrifice and specifically through the high priest. The high priest points to the ultimate high priest, Jesus Christ, who was to come.
This illustrates the biblical truth that Jesus embodied and taught. John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him
No one has access to the wonderful presence of God pictured in the ark of the covenant except by repentance and trusting in His Son, Jesus Christ. Any other way is surely a death sentence! Watch this video for a perfect analogy!
